. In the local elementary school, where 400 students attended and 47
instructors taught, only 100 people survived. One of the instructors used
his body to protect three of his students, all of which survived; however,
his body was later found severed into three parts.

Thousands are now homeless, thousands have become orphans, thousands have
lost their only child, and thousands have lost their loved ones...

Nature disaster could happen anywhere. Victims of this tragedy need your
support. Despite any cultural or political differences we may have, at the
end of the day, our humanity binds us together and urges us to assist those
in within this region.

The citizens of Canada have already seized the opportunity. Its government
is matching 1:1 for every dollar donated by its citizens.

In the meantime, we ask that you please pledge your support today. We have
identified three trustworthy organizations (below). Each maintains offices
within China and can also be found in the Gift Matching Program.

Here is the letter from the student here,Ling Guo.She went back to Sichuan,China and just suffered this earthquake.

Hi everyone:

I am a student in MTU. I came back to my hometown Chengdu during the summer break and experienced the earthquake happened on May 12th. I feel so proud when I checked the email and found all the things our Chinese students in MTU have done, like the donation and pray event. I am not on campus and cannot join these events, but I want to say something that I have seen with my own eyes these days after the quake. Although Chengdu is quite near the hit area and experienced aftershocks quite often, people here are not just protecting their own lives, instead, what I have seen most these days is the long queen in front of the Red Cross center, the numerous volunteer cars heading to the disaster area, bringing water and food which were bought by their own and the never ending sound of 120 emergency alarm, carrying injured people to hospitals from surrounding places. Today, I went to HuaXi, one of the biggest hospitals in Sichuan province, I have been told that doctors in that hospital have continued doing operations for the hurt people transported from the hit areas several days without rest. I also saw a long list of names of people who have already get treatment in that hospital.

What I want to say here is that although we cannot prevent the happening of the disaster and it makes people's heart hurt when we see our brothers and sisters suffering from the pain, but we Chinese people are a race which never give up, we believe that we can do our best to help them go through this difficulty and help them rebuild their home after it! I feel so proud of what we Chinese students in MTU have done and pray for our motherland~!
